Vidmante Cerniauskaite

Vidmante Cerniauskaite is a Lithuanian visual artist living and working in London, UK. She states 'Inside me lives another Vidmante. The girl who collected stories of the past, tales from her grandma’s lips, and family memories of generations. She is fluttering inside me and reveals in different appearances: colours of the paintings, songs, visuals, and performances. We develop together, we sing together, we fight, and we come out as one – a storyteller, a creator.Lithuanian history, folk tales and an old pagan believe are one of those things that had an enormous impact on my development as an artist. Lithuanian culture, which is considered especially melancholic and poetic, has had a significant influence on my projects-performances. There I try to expand the poetic text and disclose the meaning through melancholic music. The poetic text, the songs, and minimal action are the key techniques in my creativity. The interplay between the poetry, song lyrics and my actions aims to move and catch the viewer'.
